In 1695, the village of Pyzh with a wooden Nicholas church is mentioned in the list of churches of the Vyatka diocese. In 1738, at the initiative of Vasily Rudin, a resident of Khlynov, and with the permission of the Vyatka diocesan administration, the construction of a new church in honor of St. John the Theologian began to replace the old wooden one. The construction lasted 7 years, and the stone church was consecrated on October 26, 1745, by the archpriest of the Vyatka Holy Trinity Cathedral, Nikon.

In 1840, the construction of a new stone church began. The cold church was completed in 1854, and the warm one in 1867. The church had three altars: in the cold church, in honor of John the Theologian; in the warm church, the right one in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the left one in honor of St. Theodosius of Totma.

In 1879, the church was surrounded by a stone fence.

From 1888 to 1892, the Nicholas church was significantly rebuilt and expanded. Two more altars were added to the cold church: the northern one in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and the southern one in honor of the holy prince Alexander Nevsky.

On March 20, 1838, a parish school for boys opened at the Nicholas church. The villagers built a separate building for it with church funds. Initially, only 8 students wanted to learn. In 1843, 29 boys studied at the school, with one teacher and two assistants. By 1849, the number of students had increased to 47. In the early 1870s, a two-story stone building was constructed in the village, with the entire upper floor allocated for the school.

In the early 20th century, the village became the center of the third deanery district of the Vyatka province. The district included the parishes of the villages of Alexandrovskoye, Verkhoprosnitskoye, Volminskoye, Volchevskoye, Karinka, Mineyevskoye, Prosnitsa, Rzhanoy Polom, Selezenevo, Ust-Chepetskoye, Filippovskoye, and Chepetsko-Ilyinskoye. On June 11, 1916, the church was visited by Bishop Nikandr of Vyatka and Slobodskoy, who served the liturgy there.

Since 2004, the village day has been celebrated annually on the eve of the Peter's Fast. A prayer service for health is held at the church walls, served by the priests of the All Saints Church of Kirov-Chepetsk.
