The Nikolaev Church in the village of Pyshug was made of stone, with a stone bell tower and fence. Its construction was completed in 1836 thanks to the efforts of the parishioners. The cemetery was located outside the fence, surrounded by a fence and a moat. The church had three altars: the main one in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, as well as chapels dedicated to St. Nicholas and St. Dimitri, Metropolitan of Rostov.

The church was located 375 versts from Kostroma and 140 versts from Vetluga. The nearest churches were: the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church in the village of Vozdvizhenskoe, 8 versts away; the Archangel Church in the village of Mikhailovits, 13 versts away; the Trinity Church in the village of Ledengsk, Nikolsky district of Vologda province, 15 versts away; the Ilyinsky Church in the village of Klyuchy, 17 versts away; and the Nativity of Christ Church in the village of Noskova, Nikolsky district of Vologda province, 15 versts away.

In the 1960s, the temple was lost, and a store was built in its place. In the 1990s, a residential building located 50 meters east of the destroyed church was converted into an Orthodox church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
