The wooden Nicholas church in Zadeberye is first mentioned in 1522 in connection with the Holy Nicholas men's monastery, founded by the Romanov princes. From 1540, the church became the property of the sovereign, but after the Time of Troubles, it was returned to the Romanovs. In 1628, only the Nicholas church is mentioned, without the monastery.

The stone church began construction in 1812 with funds from parishioners. The main donors were a peasant from the village of Krestnikovo, Yakov Strogonov, and a peasant from the village of Moseyevo, Ivan Mikhailov. The construction was completed in 1825. The main altar was consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the side altar in the refectory, in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.

The church was surrounded by a stone fence with Holy Gates on the northern side.

In the 1930s, the church was closed.
