The parish church, built of stone, has three altars. The main altar is dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the right altar to St. Dmitry, Metropolitan of Rostov, consecrated in 1997, and the left altar to St. Alexius, the Man of God, consecrated in 2001. The church was erected in 1904, but it was closed in the 1930s and partially destroyed in 1940. In 1996, the church was returned to the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese, and restoration work began. Since 1997, regular services have been held in the church.

According to the decision of the Holy Archierarchical Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2013 and based on the "Program for Providing Places for Prayer in Settlements of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese," it was blessed to define the boundaries of the parish of the church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Peshelan, Arzamas District, Nizhny Novgorod Region. The following settlements of the Arzamas District are included in the parish: the villages of Kazakovo, Peshelan, Lenin, and the villages of Vatskoye, Berezovka, Kozhino, Knyazevka, Zarechnoye, Chuvarleika, Shershtino, Ozerki, and Salnikov. The responsibility for involving the residents of these settlements in church life and regularly conducting services is entrusted to the rector of the church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Peshelan, Arzamas District, Nizhny Novgorod Region.
