St. Nicholas Church in Osinovka

Фото 1
This is the oldest church in the Samara Luka, consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. It is located in the village of Osinovka in the Stavropol district. In 1714, Count Menshikov gifted this church to the village, claiming that St. Nicholas saved him during a storm opposite Osinovka. Some historians believe that the church was built on the site of an ancient Bulgarian temple.

In 1929, a priest was shot in the altar of the church along with his wife and children. He found the strength to choose between death and renouncing his faith, preserving his human dignity. Unfortunately, his name is unknown to us.

Later, there were attempts to destroy the church by blowing it up four times. The first attempts were in 1938, and then continued during Khrushchev's time. Despite all the destruction and spilled blood, the church managed to withstand.
