Initially, it was planned to build a church in the village of Tolstopyatova in the Kaminsky volost and attach nearby villages Obanino, Kisly, and Yarki to its parish. However, the residents of Obanino and Kisly expressed a desire to build a church in their village. Archpriest Ioann Mukhin and volost council member Ivan Popov held a meeting on June 7, 1859, where all residents supported this idea. Construction was delayed due to the lack of a contractor, but in 1863, it was taken on by retired craftsman Ya.D. Ershov from the Zlatoust factory. On September 17, 1863, Archpriest Grigory Obraztsov laid the church's foundation, and five years later, Ershov completed its construction. The altar was consecrated on May 9, 1868, in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and this day became the church's feast day.

The Nicholas Church was small but beautiful. The iconostasis was purchased for 1200 rubles from the Peter and Paul Church of the Kuratamysh sloboda. In 1877, icons were installed on metal outside the altar and above the entrance gates. In 1900, with donations from parishioners, a stand for the shroud was bought. In 1871, a wooden fence was built around the church, and trees were planted. The church clergy were allocated 66 desyatinas of land.

In 1899-1900, priest Pyotr Lastochkin carried out repairs on the church, as the icons had darkened, the plaster had cracked, and the domes and crosses had rusted. About 4000 rubles were collected for the repairs. The parish society took on the arrangement of a new iconostasis and the painting of the church. According to data from 1915, there were three schools and 540 households in the Obanino parish, with a population of 1724 men and 1744 women.

The 1917 Revolution and the Civil War had a significant impact on the country and the village of Obanino. The new authorities were hostile to clergy, closing churches and confiscating property. Clergymen were arrested, sent to forced labor, deprived of voting rights, and their children were denied education. The priest of the Nicholas Church, Yegor Makarovich Lushnikov, was arrested on November 28, 1919, and sentenced to execution on December 9, despite local residents' support.

The church continued to operate until the early 1930s. The last priest was Ivan Vasilyevich Ulyanov, who was arrested on January 6, 1934, and exiled for three years. In 1936, the church and parish were closed, the utensils were requisitioned, and the icons were destroyed. Some icons were saved by parishioners who took them home. The church building was used as a grain warehouse, and later it housed a diesel generator for electricity supply. In the 1970s, a boiler room was located in the bell tower. The building is now abandoned.

In April of this year, the villagers held a cleanup day around the church and decided to start its restoration. They invited the rector of the Kuratamysh parish, Father Alexander, and organized a fundraising campaign. The initiative group appeals to all concerned individuals for help in reviving the church.
