Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker in Novy (Kovrov District)

Фото 1
In the early 17th century, a wooden church dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker is mentioned. The last wooden Nicholas church existed until the second half of the 19th century. A stone church with the same name was built between 1820 and 1827 with funds from landowner and provincial secretary Fyodor Andreyevich Mylnikov and parishioners. The church had one chapel dedicated to St. Theodosius of the Caves.

From 1913 to 1930, the rector of the church was Sergey Nikolayevich Festinatov, and from 1944 to 1970, it was Archbishop Onisim of Vladimir and Suzdal. On Christmas 1926, Bishop Athanasius Sakharov served in the Nicholas church.

The church was closed by the decision of the Ivanovo Regional Executive Committee on March 26, 1941, and was liquidated on May 8 of the same year. The building was used as an MTS facility and remained in neglect until the late 2000s. Currently, it has been fully restored, and services are held there.
