The church in the village of Nikolsk was built in 1764 by Princess Sofia Semyonovna Volkonskaya. It has two altars: in the name of St. Nicholas the Bishop and Wonderworker and in the name of St. Alexander Nevsky, the Holy and Righteous Prince. The building is a pillarless square with minimal decor and no plaster, except for the second tier of the main octagon. The panorama of the village from the path leading from the neighboring Kozlov along the riverbank was particularly impressive. At the point where the Svinkin stream flows into the Sutka, the river makes a sharp turn to the northeast, and the path also curves. Before the traveler walking along the high hill, the snow-white church with a bell tower, surrounded by trees, suddenly appeared.

The village of Novo-Nikolsk has a long history. During the serfdom period, it belonged to the Volkonsky princes, who left a significant mark in the political and military history of Russia. Beneath the church rest Prince Semyon Fyodorovich Volkonsky and his daughter Sofia. Their remains were transferred here according to the will of S.F. Volkonsky, the grandfather of the famous Decembrist S.G. Volkonsky. Today, the temple is in a semi-ruined state, but traces of the former painting can still be seen on its walls.
