Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Nikolsk on Kirzhach

Фото 1
The village of Nikolsk is located on the Malyy Kirzhach River and has been known since the 14th century. In the past, it was a hamlet of the palace village of Andreevskoye. The patriarchal tax book of 1628 mentions the 'church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Mikulinskoye on the Malyy Kirzhach.' In 1729, the church was rebuilt, and in 1831, the current stone Nikolsk church with a bell tower was erected. The church had two altars: one in honor of St. Nicholas the Bishop, and the other, warm, in the refectory, in honor of the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian. The church was annexed to the Nikolsk church of the neighboring village of Sokolovo, which was destroyed during the Soviet era, and priests from there conducted services in this church as well. In the 1930s, during the Soviet period, the church was closed, and the bell tower was destroyed.
