Prince Pozharsky built two churches on his Nizhny Novgorod lands, which were opened in 1654 after his death. One of them, in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, was located in the village of Pokrovskoye, Milino, while the other, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, was in the village of Mikhailovsk. After the prince's death, these villages were transferred by Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich to the possession of Pozharsky's second wife, Feodora Andreevna. After her death in 1651, all her lands in the Puretsky volost were taken over by the Land Order and were distributed to serving nobles in 1653 and 1654. The village of Pokrovskoye went to the nobleman Fyodor Kuzmich Elizarov, while the village of Mikhailovsk went to the chamberlain Vasily Yakovlevich Golokhvastov.

Initially, the Kazan church in the village of Mikhailovsk had two altars, with the main altar in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and a side altar in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

According to the address calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese for 1888, the Kazan church was listed as wooden, single-altar, built in 1795. The stone Nicholas temple was mentioned separately.
