In 2013, the building at 72 Krasnaya Street was transferred to the Michurinsk Diocese. Before the official transfer ceremony, Metropolitan Theodosius of Tambov and Rasskazovo held a thanksgiving service and accepted the building from the city administration.

Before the 1917 revolution, this structure belonged to the Nikolskaya almshouse with a church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The almshouse and church were built in 1887 with funds from parishioners who worked on the railway. There were a men's two-class and a women's one-class school operating at the church. During the Soviet era, after the church was closed, the building was repurposed and housed a club named after V.I. Lenin. In the early 21st century, it housed a representative office of the Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin, and now it will accommodate the Diocesan Administration of the Michurinsk Diocese, and the Nicholas Church will be restored.

Work has already been carried out to dismantle the old roof, which was in an emergency state and leaking. The foundation and part of the walls, which had developed cracks, have been reinforced. More than half of the ceiling replacements have been completed. After clearing the debris and removing the floor in the altar part of the Nicholas Church, the foundation of the altar, laid back in 1887, was discovered. The restored church will regain its altar in the same place. Plans include the restoration of the bell tower and belfry, as well as the installation of new domes, which will return the building to its historical appearance.
