On September 27, 1989, a prayer house was opened in Bor in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. On the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, Metropolitan Nikolai Kutepov of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas conducted the first service there. The first rector was Archpriest Ioann Solovyev.

In 2003, a bell tower was added to the prayer house, which was consecrated, and domes were erected. On June 28, 2010, the prayer house received a new name, the MRO "Orthodox Parish of the Church in the Name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Bor, Nizhny Novgorod Region." On May 28, 2011, the dean of the Bor district, Alexiy Parfenov, along with the Bor clergy, consecrated the altar.
