The village of Kuzmino-Gat was founded by Cossack guards in 1648 during the construction of the Tatar rampart. The church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is mentioned in the 1676 records of the spiritual diocese as being located in this village. In the 20th century, there was a wooden St. Nicholas church in the village. Currently, there is an active stone church, designed in the shape of an octagon with a high octagonal dome and decorative cupola. The church is adjoined by a spacious refectory with a metal roof and a three-tiered bell tower topped with an octagonal spire and cupola. The church building is plastered and painted.

In 2000, the church was returned to the believers and renovated. The area around the church has been fenced and landscaped by the efforts of the parishioners. The St. Nicholas church remains a spiritual center and the main adornment of the village.
