This majestic church is visible from afar beyond the village of Kutyino. Its construction was completed in 1911, consecrated in 1929, but closed the same year. In the early 20th century, the church was handed over to the diocese, and a temporary chapel was built nearby, but the church itself has not yet been renovated. The size and appearance of the church are impressive, its architecture is unique, and the masonry is adorned with exquisite brick patterns. Unlike most other religious buildings, the church was not used after its closure, which helped preserve the wall paintings and floor tiles.

The church was built from red bricks produced at a local factory located near Proshin Bridge. The construction was done manually: once the foundation and walls were laid, scaffolding was erected to access the bell tower and ceiling. Bricks and earth were carried in bags by both men and women. Craftsmen and carpenters were invited from Saratov and Petrovsk, and the contractor was also from Petrovsk.

The craftsmen lived with Maria Arefyevna Karpukhina. Funds for construction were collected by a collector, and people donated what they could. The church was built in 1911, awaiting the arrival of the archbishop, but he did not come; instead, priests from other places arrived. The construction involved priests: Father Ivan Shansky, Father Yegor, Deacon Nikolai Mikhailovich Belousov, and Father Antonin. The church was closed in 1929, and Father Yegor was arrested but soon released. He was deeply affected, fell ill, and died a week later. His brother was shot. They were all buried near the church, in front of the icon of Jesus Christ on the eastern side, inside a fence adorned with glass spheres.

In 1988, the residents of Kutyino appealed to the Saratov diocese with a request to open an Orthodox parish. The building of the Nikolsky church, which remained in a semi-ruined state, was handed over to the faithful and recognized as a monument of architecture.

In 1991, a one-story building of the Holy Nikolsky Church was constructed next to the historic Nikolsky church building. In 2004, with the blessing of Bishop Longin of Saratov and Volsk, Priest Alexey Zemtsov performed the rite of placing the Antimension.

In early December 2018, work began on the conservation of the church, which was planned to be carried out in three stages: covering the central dome, bell tower, and walls. On December 20, 2018, the conservation of the central dome was completed, and work began on covering the bell tower.
