The village of Yanovo, which is now part of the settlement of Kubrinsk, once belonged to the boyar's son Matvey Grigoriev. In 1654, a church was built here. In 1694, it was rebuilt and consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1783, the church burned down, but in the same year, with the blessing of Bishop Theophilact of Pereslavl, a new wooden church was erected.

In 1824, a stone temple was built on the site of the wooden church. In 1869, the western part of the temple was expanded and separated from the rest, where the chapels were moved. The church has three altars: in the cold part, in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, in the warm refectory, in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos and the righteous Zachariah and Elizabeth.
