The parish in the village of Kosolapovo, Urzhum district of Vyatka province, was founded in 1836. Two years later, a wooden church was built with altars in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Sergius of Radonezh. In the late 1870s, thanks to the efforts of the parishioners, a stone church with three altars appeared in the village. The altar in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated in 1880, in honor of Sergius of Radonezh in 1884 in the warm church, and in 1903 the cold church was consecrated in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. The architecture of the church is rich in decorative elements of ancient Russian architecture.

In 1915, the church in Kosolapovo was assigned a chapel in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Pumari and a chapel in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Chasovennaia. The parish had a church-parish school and five zemstvo schools, which were supported by the clergy of the Holy Nicholas Church.

In 1937, the church was closed, the bell tower was destroyed, and the building was converted into a dormitory for a boarding school.

In October 1998, the church building was returned to the church. In July 2000, the first service was held here, and in 2002, the current rector, Archpriest Alexander Milyutin, began his ministry. However, the church is still in the process of restoration: gasification has been completed and reconstruction is underway. Services are held in the chapel of St. Nicholas of Myra, which has not yet been consecrated.

Today, the church has a chapel in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God in the village of Ishtyra. At the site of the destroyed chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Pumari, a cross has been erected. Every year after Easter, a procession is held to it, and a moleben is served in the Mari language. A water blessing moleben is conducted near the spring of St. Martyr Paraskeva-Friday.
