In the village of Kashina, now located in the Bogdanovich district, a church was laid in 1849 in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was consecrated in 1858. In 1935, the temple was closed and repurposed as a club, during which the graves of priests buried near the altar were desecrated.

In the early 1990s, after the bankruptcy of the state farm, the club became unnecessary, and the building was abandoned. It was subjected to looting: windows, doors were taken out, and part of the roof was dismantled. Oleg Stepanov, who tried to revive the state farm, purchased the church building for 40,000 rubles but later put it up for sale. Priest Igor Smolin, upon learning of this, was outraged and decided to defend his rights in court. The court declared the purchase invalid, establishing that the church was built with funds from Orthodox Christians in the 19th century, and Stepanov acquired it in bad faith.

The Bogdanovich court transferred ownership of the church to the Yekaterinburg diocese. Local residents, pleased with the decision, began restoring the church: they cleared part of the premises of debris, bricked up a broken wall, and held two services. However, Stepanov filed a cassation appeal, and the restoration of the church was postponed indefinitely.

Now, looking at the dilapidated building, it is hard to believe that it was once one of the most beautiful. For over 15 years, the church has been in an emergency state and needs urgent conservation. Local authorities are trying to help solve the problem. The head of the rural territory, Alexander Danilov, expressed hope that the owners of the church would show goodwill.

Stepanov is not in contact, and the municipal property management committee of the Bogdanovich administration is also involved in the case. Although the building has been sold into private hands, it remains a cultural and historical heritage site and should be protected by the state. However, the administration has not yet taken active measures.

In 1911, the famous Ural writer Pavel Petrovich Bazhov and Valentina Alexandrovna Ivanitskaya, a graduate of the diocesan women's school where Bazhov taught Russian and Church Slavonic languages and literature, were married in the St. Nicholas Church.
