The church in the village of Yeltsino existed as early as the end of the first half of the 17th century. The patriarchal tax records from 1646 mention "the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the village of Yeltsino in Little Rožok," with a tribute of two altyns and two dengi, as well as with tithes and an entrance fee. In 1667, the same records indicate that there were chapels of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and Nicholas the Wonderworker at the Resurrection Church. In 1713, the boyar and prince Pyotr Ivanovich Khovansky built a new wooden church, consecrated in honor of the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. The consecration was entrusted to the abbot of the Volosovo Monastery, Nikolai. In 1819, instead of the dilapidated wooden church, a stone temple of the Dormition of the Mother of God was built with funds from local landowners, General-Adjutant Ivan Nikolaevich Rimsky-Korsakov and Countess Ekaterina Petrovna Stroganova, daughter of Pyotr Nikitich Trubetskoy and Princess Anastasia Vasilyevna Khovanskaya. It is likely that a stone bell tower was also erected at that time, the upper tiers of which were destroyed during the Soviet era. In 1836, a warm church of Nicholas the Wonderworker was arranged under the bell tower, so that the bells were placed in its dome.
