The church in Bolshaya Yelna was built in 1799 in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Bishop of Myra, who is one of the most venerated saints in Russia. This is a three-altar church, where the main altar is dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the right altar to St. Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, and the left altar to the Prophet Elijah. Currently, restoration work is underway at the church.
