The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, also known as the Russian Church in Bari, is a stavropegial temple of the Russian Orthodox Church dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. It is located in the Italian city of Bari, in the Carrassi district.
Founded in 1911, this church is a unique architectural monument for Western Europe. It is also referred to as the Russian Church in Bari or the St. Nicholas Metochion. The Italian name is La Chiesa Russa di Bari.
The upper church is directly managed by the Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus, while the lower church belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.
It is important not to confuse this metochion of St. Nicholas with the Catholic Basilica of St. Nicholas, where services of both confessions are held and where the relics of the saint are kept. These churches are located close to each other.
