The "Handbook on Churches and Clergy of the Vyatka Diocese" reports that in 1908, there was a wooden chapel in the village of Astanchurga, built in 1886. It was a building resembling a large house with a dome topped by a two-meter wooden cross. The chapel was part of the parish of the Alexander Nevsky Church in the village of Aleksandrovskoye, from the village of Shchenniki, in the 5th Deanery District, where the dean was Priest Vasily Ignatievich Kurbanovsky from the village of Kiknur. At the Alexander Nevsky Church, Priest N.A. Diakonov and Deacon V.M. Myshkin served. The parish in the village of Astanchurga was established in 1896, and the church was built in 1895 at the site of the discovery of the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1916-1917, the church was extended and a bell tower was added. In the 1920s, a priest from the Shchenniki Church began serving at the Astanchurga Church.

In 1937, most churches and temples, including the Astanchurga Church, were closed. The church was inactive for 9 years but was used as a school. Church life resumed during the war and the early post-war years.
