Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Alachino

Фото 1
The village of Alachino is located 14 kilometers southeast of Kovrov. The oldest building here is the church dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, with a warm chapel in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God.

The stone church in Alachino is built with a single dome crowning a four-pitched roof, topped with an onion-shaped dome covered with sheet metal. The bell tower is octagonal on a square base with a tent-like top and a small onion dome at its peak. The church and bell tower are characterized by simplicity, without any decorations. Their smooth walls and strict silhouette resemble a medieval castle or a secluded hermitage. Documents regarding the construction indicate that the bell tower is designed in the Gothic style with a dome covered in white iron, and a cypress cross also clad in iron, with four bells.

The Nikolsky church was built between 1807 and 1810 by retired ensign Gavriil Mikhailovich Babkin of the Poltava Musketeer Regiment, a local landowner. In early 1807, his brother, Captain Vasily Mikhailovich Babkin, was killed in battle against French troops, likely in the Battle of Preussisch Eylau in Prussia. Gavriil Babkin erected the church in memory of his brother, which is why Gothic elements are present in the architecture. The church was consecrated on September 19, 1810, by Priest Alexander Mikhailovich Shirokogorov. A description of the icons and church utensils has been preserved, among which are ancient and valuable items.

On May 27, 2017, the bells were consecrated at the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Alachino. The consecration was conducted by Archpriest Mikhail Chernov and Rector Alexey Anfalov.

On August 11, 2018, Metropolitan Evlogiy of Vladimir and Suzdal consecrated a cross for the church in Alachino. After the consecration, he addressed those gathered with an archpastoral word, calling the consecration of the cross an important stage in the restoration of the church, and thanked the rector, Archpriest Alexey Anfalov, for his efforts in building the church and improving the area.
