In Orenburg, the first city children's orphanage was founded in 1872 thanks to the efforts of the wife of the governor-general Kryzhanovsky, Olympiada Kirillovna. It was named Olga's in memory of the Kryzhanovskys' daughter, Olga. Initially, services were held in the large hall of the orphanage, where an icon of Saint Olga, the patroness of the establishment, was located. In 1891, thanks to the efforts of the new guardian, the wife of Governor Maslokovets, Yulia Egorovna, and with the funds of benefactors, a house church was established. On October 6 of the same year, Bishop Makary of Orenburg and Uralsk consecrated the church. It had one altar dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The wooden church with a cross covered in tin was located in the orphanage building and was an extension of its recreational hall.
