The village of Elizarovo, located on the Shakha River, is 25 versts from the district town and 100 versts from the provincial capital. In the mid-16th century, this village along with neighboring villages belonged to the boyar A. D. Basmanov. In 1624, part of the Elizarovo estate was given as a dowry for Basmanov's daughter, while another part passed to the boyar F. I. Sheremetyev. In 1643, the owners transferred Elizarovo with its villages to the Trinity-Sergius Monastery, which was confirmed by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in 1653. In 1764, Elizarovo and the villages attached to it were taken from the monastery and handed over to state property.

Since the mid-16th century, a stone church dedicated to St. Nikita the Great Martyr has stood in the village of Elizarovo, built by the village owner A. Basmanov. Over the years, the church has undergone numerous renovations that significantly altered its original appearance. Only the tent-like top, reminiscent of the top of St. Peter the Metropolitan in Pereslavl, retains evidence of its antiquity. In this century, Greek pediments were added to the northern and southern sides, and a spacious warm refectory connected to the stone bell tower was added to the west. The altar of the cold church has preserved its ancient form with three semicircular projections.

Originally, the church had two altars: in the name of St. Nikita the Great Martyr and St. Onuphrius the Great. With the addition of the stone refectory, two more altars appeared: in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Sergius of Radonezh.

The external changes to the church also affected its interior decoration: currently, nothing from the ancient times remains in the church. The iconostases, holy icons, and church utensils belong to a later period.

Boyar Basmanov, the builder of the church, bequeathed that two priests and a deacon should serve there, who were to commemorate the Basmanov family and his people who perished near Kazan. As a donation, he left the clergy the wasteland of Vishka, which includes 308 desyatinas and 586 sazhen.
