The Church of Michael Malein, located at the gates of the Holy Trinity Male Monastery, was founded in 1731. Originally, there was a wooden church on this site, which eventually fell into disrepair and was replaced by a new stone structure. An important role in this was played by the abbot Macarius and the salt industrialist Mikhail Turchaninov. Turchaninov planned to build a copper smelting plant near Solikamsk on the Talitsa River, the land of which belonged to the monastery. In exchange for transferring this land and a mill to him, he committed to building a stone church. Construction began in 1731, and the church with an altar in the name of Peter and Paul was completed in 1734, after Turchaninov's death. The church was consecrated on June 16 of the same year.

The new church was built not above the gates, like the previous one, but next to them, while retaining the name "above-gate" and becoming the foundation for the bell tower. Architecturally, the church is a pillarless square with a massive octagonal bell tower. The belfry was arranged above the main church rather than above the narthex, which distinguishes it from other churches in the city. The bells were moved from the old wooden belfry, but most of them melted in the fire of 1743. Later, in 1775, the ringing was reinforced with bells from the Pyskor Monastery, but the walls could not withstand the load and cracked. The largest bell was never raised, leaving it on the ground.

In 1778, architect Vasily Kaftirev, after studying the condition of the church, noted that the bell tower was not designed for such a large ringing and suggested dismantling it and rebuilding it. However, the church remained standing and survived the fire of 1806. After that, it was closed for more than forty years and restored only in 1851. During the restoration, the original frames disappeared, replaced with simpler ones.

The church was closed in 1928, the iconostasis was destroyed, and together with the monastery, it was transferred to Kalitrust and then to Usollag. In 1930, two tiers of the bell tower and the drum with the dome were dismantled, and the interior space was divided into cells for prisoners.

In the 1990s, the monastery in Solikamsk was restored, and the Church of Michael Malein became active again.
