A small wooden church was laid on April 24, 2013, by Bishop Varna of Vyksa. While construction was underway, services were held in a specially equipped room. On January 11, 2015, a cross was consecrated and installed on the dome of the church under construction.
The church is being built in honor of the locally revered saint, the holy martyr Mikhail Gusev, who was a protodeacon and the rector of the Church of St. Nicholas in Kulebaki. He was shot on November 20, 1937.
