The village of Zhitnikovsky is located in the southeast part of the Shadrinsk district, on the border with the Tobolsk province, 280 versts from the diocesan city and 75 versts from the district center, in the southeast direction. The village is situated on the Petropavlovsk tract, by the shore of the large lake Itkul, amidst forests and swamps, making the area unfavorable for the health of its residents. The soil here is diverse: partially black soil, but predominantly clayey. Until 1840, this place was uninhabited, but that year, settlers from the Okhansky and Kungursky districts of the Perm province arrived and established a settlement named Zhitnikova after the surname of the first settler. Soon, the villages of Zhikina, Shaburova, and Nikolskaya were founded in the same manner.

All the new villages were part of the Kargapol parish, but since 1862, they separated into an independent parish, which was joined by the village of Tukmannaya from the Mekhonsky parish.

Currently, the Zhitnikovsky parish has 3,249 souls of both genders, of which 792 are dissenters. All parishioners belong to the Russian tribe, classified as peasants, and are engaged in agriculture.

The church in the parish is wooden, built between 1862 and 1865, and consecrated on March 20, 1865, in the name of the holy archangel Michael. Initially, the iconostasis was an old one purchased from a Balkan church, but in 1886, it was replaced with a new one made by the efforts of the parishioners.

In 1876, the church was clad on the outside, and in 1878, it was plastered on the inside. By 1895, the church began to deteriorate, which was noted by the local dean in a report for the district in 1894, and the diocesan authorities suggested that the clergy and the elder urgently address the church's repairs.

In 1896, the clergy invited a technical expert to inspect the church, who concluded that a major renovation was required, costing almost as much as building a new wooden church. Upon learning this, the parishioners stated that they disagreed to either repair the old church or build a new one. When the technician's conclusion and the parishioners' decision were communicated to the diocesan authorities, a directive from the Yekaterinburg Spiritual Consistory was received, instructing the clergy and the elder to immediately begin the construction of a new church and to create a construction commission. The Consistory's resolution was announced to the parishioners of the Zhitnikovsky church through the Kargapol Volost Administration.

On January 8, 1897, a church-parish meeting took place, where a decision was made to build a new wooden church in the village of Zhitnikovsky, and a construction commission was elected from among the parishioners. The commission actively began to fulfill its mandate and by the end of 1897 had raised a capital of 500 rubles for the church's construction, received a free allocation of 1,500 logs of the best timber from the Perm Provincial Government, and developed a construction plan for the church, which was approved by the Construction Department of the Perm Provincial Government.

However, the parishioners changed their minds about building a wooden church and at a meeting on March 22, 1898, decided to build a stone one instead. A second plan was drawn up, and after its approval, the church was laid.

Currently, the construction of the church is still not completed, and services continue in the old one. Public houses are provided for the clergy's use.

There are three schools in the parish: a church-parish school in the village, a ministerial school in the village of Zhikina, and a zemstvo school in the village of Tukmannaya. Chapels are present in the villages of Zhikina, Nikolskaya, and Shaburova.
