The Church of Archangel Michael is one of the main attractions of Vyatskiye Polyany. Originally, it was located in the village of Sushchi, situated 15 kilometers upstream along the Vyatka River. The church was built of wood without the use of nails and is considered the oldest monument of wooden architecture in this area, as well as one of the oldest churches on the Vyatka. In 1728, Kazan Metropolitan Silvester sent a decree for the establishment of a parish and the construction of this unique monument of ancient Russian architecture. This is the first known written mention of the Church of Archangel Michael.

In 1731, the first wooden post for the future temple was installed, but the exact date of its laying remains a matter of debate. It is believed that construction took place from 1728 to 1733. In 1729, logs were harvested, and in 1731, the frame was assembled, which was delivered by river from the village of Stary Burets. In January 1733, the temple was consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael. It was a cold building of the "kletskoy" type on stumps instead of a foundation. According to legend, the master Lazar, who led the construction, was buried near the church walls. By 1740, a free-standing wooden bell tower was built, which lasted for almost a hundred years. In 1884, a church parish school was opened at the temple. In 1919, during the advance of the Red Army, the village was shelled, but the church remained unharmed.

In 1933, the temple was closed, and its building was turned into a village club, and later a grain storage, which led to the destruction of some elements. Despite the church being recognized as a monument of architecture, it was not restored and gradually fell into disrepair. In 1998, it was decided to move it to Vyatskiye Polyany for restoration. This was aided by the rector of the Nikolsky Cathedral, Father Alexey Sukhi, and parishioners. During the dismantling, a foundation log was found with the date "15... g," which may indicate an earlier foundation of the temple.

Archangel Michael is venerated in Orthodoxy, Judaism, and Islam. The church in his honor in Vyatskiye Polyany is located near the cemetery and memorial. It was established on a brick base with an altar dedicated to Saint Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday. The walls are covered with planks, and the structure includes a square part, a refectory, and an altar section. Currently, cells for a men's monastery are being built near the church. Above the entrance, a wooden church with a bell tower dedicated to Saint Onuphrius the Great, revered in several Christian denominations, is installed. The temple, erected in 2000, is executed in Russian architectural classicism and consists of a square part and two octagons on a stone base. The bell tower offers a view of Vyatskiye Polyany.
