The settlement is first mentioned in 1849 as the village of Bogoyavlenka, and by the end of the 19th century, it became a village. In 1910, a wooden church with a bell tower was built here, and a literacy school was opened. After the establishment of Soviet power, the village of Bogoyavlenka was renamed Sukhodol, and since 1970 it has had the status of an urban-type settlement. In the late 1920s, the church bells were removed, the parish was closed, and the building was abandoned.

The parish was re-established in October 1993. In November 1994, the site for the construction was consecrated, and the construction of a new church in honor of Archangel Michael began. The old church was deemed unsuitable for restoration, so it was dismantled in 2001, and the remaining timber was used for the construction of the new church's narthex.

The lower part of the new church is designed in the shape of a ship, while the upper part is in the shape of a cross. The architectural style of the church belongs to ancient Russian, pre-Peter the Great era. Many institutions and enterprises from the Sergievsky district participated in the construction of the church. Since 1995, a Sunday school has been operating at the Archangel Michael Church in Sukhodol, continuing the traditions of church-parish schools up to 1917.

On November 26, 2007, on the Day of Archangel Michael, Archbishop Sergey of Samara and Syzran performed the rite of the Great Consecration of the church.
