Stany is a village located in the territory of the Uglich district, which was previously part of the Uglich county. It is situated south of Uglich on a hill, near the Krivaya River, a left tributary of the Uleyma River. According to legend, the name of the village is connected to a Tatar camp that once existed here. The village is first mentioned in documents in the early 16th century, and in 1532 it was assigned to the Uglich Protection Monastery. In 1791, parishioners built a stone church here. The church is single-domed, one-story, with a warm refectory. In the late 19th century, thanks to the efforts of priest N.E. Troitsky, a porch with a three-tiered bell tower topped with a spire was erected. The main church is consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael, and the altar in the refectory is dedicated to the Life-Giving Trinity. In the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the village had a population of 250 people, and a church parish school operated here.
