In the past, Shiloksha was a small village with 15-20 houses and two inns for travelers along the major route from Murom to Ardatov to Arzamas. The village was located on the banks of the Shiloksha River, which flowed into the Tesh River 200 meters from the settlement. This determined the local residents' occupations: logging, firewood gathering, and rafting down the Tesh River to the Oka, as well as charcoal burning. In 1892, a school for literacy was opened in Shiloksha. The peasant Y.F. Kurlov provided his small house for this purpose. The teacher was 24-year-old peasant R.G. Osin. In gratitude for the provided house, Y.F. Kurlov was appointed the school trustee. Two years later, a building for the church parish school was constructed. From 1906 to 1914, E.I. Dieva taught in Shiloksha, and she was later succeeded by K.V. Tumanovskaya.

In 1915, a wooden church was built in Shiloksha, and from that time the village became a settlement. In 1997, thanks to the initiative of the residents, their donations, and sponsorship support, the construction of a new church in honor of Archangel Michael began in Shiloksha. The temple was opened on October 1, 1999.
