The history of the Shigon church dates back to 1829. In the early 19th century, the village of Shigony was acquired by landowner Dmitry Krotkov, who immediately began the construction of a stone church. Krotkov's descendants continued his pious endeavor. Dmitry Stepanovich's granddaughter, Varvara Pavlovna Krotkova-Durasova, restored the church sixty years later and surrounded it with a stone fence featuring elements of blacksmithing. The chapels of the church were consecrated in honor of the family's heavenly patrons: the right one in honor of Saint Dmitry of Rostov, and in the warm refectory on the right side, in honor of Saint Barbara the Great Martyr. The left chapel was consecrated in honor of Saint Mary Magdalene, and in the refectory on the left side, in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. The destruction of the Archangel church began in the 1930s, and to this day only the narthex of the former church has survived.

For about sixty years, no services were held in the Shigon church, and the building was used as a warehouse. In 1989, with the blessing of Metropolitan Ioann Snychev, the dean of the Syzran district, Archpriest Grigory Koberik began the restoration of the church and the revival of faith in the Shigon land. In 1990, the rector of the Church of Archangel Michael, Priest Nikolai Kibaluk, held the first service on the day of the Holy Trinity.
