The Church of Archangel Michael with the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the village of Shargoli, Bogorodsky District, has remarkably well preserved. While in neighboring villages such as Khvoshchevka, Shapkino, and Kubaevo, churches have either been destroyed or severely damaged, this church retains its multicolored frescoes, and the wooden floors have mostly survived. After the church was closed and icons were publicly burned, the building was used for grain storage for a long time. However, resuming services was difficult due to the village's remoteness and lack of parishioners.

The church is located in the main square of the village, which was once well-maintained, with brick houses from the 19th century and an overgrown pond.

Next to the church is a mass grave of food requisitioners who came to Khvoshchevka in 1918 to seize bread from the peasants. Despite threats from the requisition squad led by a Latvian shooter, the peasants resisted and confronted the requisitioners with pitchforks. In response, the new authorities sent a punitive detachment to Khvoshchevka. The deceased requisitioners were buried not in Khvoshchevka, but several versts away, in Shargoli.
