The church in the village of Durnikino, now known as Podgornoye, was built in 1889 by local parishioners. This stone building with a bell tower, but without a fence, has two altars. The main, cold altar is dedicated to the Holy Archangel Michael, while the warm chapel is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky.

There were four houses for the residence of the church clergy, which included two priests, a deacon, and two psalmists. On November 12, 1862, a church-parish guardianship was established. The church also had a large library located on the second floor of the bell tower. In 1861, a zemstvo school opened in the village, and on January 8, 1885, a church-parish school was established. Additionally, there were two literacy schools in the village.

In 1962, a fire occurred in the church, causing minor damage to the building, with the winter refectory part being scorched. However, this served as a reason for the authorities to close it.

In 1989, the church building was transferred to the parish. In 2000, with the blessing of Archbishop Alexander Timofeev, the restoration of the warm chapel dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky began. On September 12, 2002, on the feast day, the dean of the Western district, Archpriest Boris Lanchikov, consecrated the restored chapel. The rector of the church is Priest Nikolai Pikhovkin.
