The church, dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, was opened on November 21, 1858. At that time, the village was owned by the landowner Orekhov, after whom the village was named. Thanks to his efforts and the labor of local peasants, a wooden church was built according to the principle of 'under stone'. The architecture of stone churches served as the basis for the construction of the church in Orekhovka. The log structure was sheathed with boards and painted both outside and inside. The architectural elements of the facade made of wood mirrored the forms of stone or plaster details in the classical style, which was popular at the time.

There is an opinion that the church in Orekhovka was never closed, but documents stored in the church testify to the contrary. In the late 1930s, a few years before the start of the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed, and grain was stored in its building. To save the church, after the war, believers from Orekhovka and nearby villages sent a delegation to Moscow to M.I. Kalinin. Their efforts were successful.

The church was reopened in 1946, which was rare for those times. Icons and church utensils that parishioners had temporarily kept at home began to be returned to the church. A local artist, Grigory Burkov, known in the village as a folk painter, restored the icons. He also painted new icons, and now these beautiful images, created and restored by the master, adorn the church.

The wooden church, sheathed with boards, was built over a century ago. It is a single-domed square structure with a small octagon under an onion dome, a rectangular altar extension, a refectory, and a two-tiered tent bell tower. The church has the status of a regional architectural monument and is a true adornment of the entire area.
