The Church of Archangel Michael in Nova Alekseevka

Фото 1
At the beginning of the 20th century, a church dedicated to the Archangel Michael was built in the village. It is located on an open elevation, one hundred meters east of the road leading north from the district center. A road runs from the north side of the church, descending to the village situated below, along a ravine and the Lomovka River.

The church consists of three parts and is oriented along the east-west axis. The composition includes a temple with an octagonal base on a square foundation, a five-sided apse, a refectory equal in width to the temple, and a tall tiered bell tower. The octagonal part of the temple, with a dome covering, is twice as narrow as the square base and has a large dome above the cubic volume. The proportions and vertical dimensions of the various parts of the building are harmoniously coordinated. The apse, refectory, and the lower tier of the bell tower are equal in height and are united by a common entablature that crosses the facades of the square base, separating the attic part, which is proportional to the second tier of the bell tower. The roofs of the apse and refectory are equal in height to the attics.

The third tier of the bell tower is a solid square, while the upper tier, the bell octagon, is similar to the octagonal part of the temple, with four rectangular openings oriented towards the cardinal directions. The edges with openings are topped with pediments that conceal the base of the hemispherical covering.

In the octagonal part of the temple, large windows are located on each side, topped with pediments. Both octagons are crowned with bulbous domes on slender octagonal necks.

The church is wooden, constructed "in lap" from hewn logs and clad with wooden planks. The plinth is of varying heights, made of rough stone on a cement mortar. Initially, the roofs were iron over wooden rafters, but part has been replaced with slate: a four-pitched roof over the square base, a gable roof over the refectory, a five-pitched roof over the altar, and an octagonal dome over the octagons.

All windows are rectangular, located at the same level, and have identical framed surrounds with two-tiered shelves and pediments in the center. The facade decor features a fragmented, predominantly three-part division with wide vertical panels. The corners are closed with pilasters. The tops of the walls are finished with entablatures featuring a wide frieze divided by panels. The cornices have a large overhang and are boarded from below.

Entrances with wooden double-leaf doors in rectangular openings are arranged on three sides of the church. The outer doors are solid and paneled, while the inner ones have glazing in the upper part.
