In 1843, a church was built in the village in honor of the Archangel Michael. Before that, for over a hundred years, local residents conducted church rituals in the church of the village of Tashla. The Archangel Michael church in Lower Sancheleevo was originally wooden, with a stone foundation, covered with iron, and had a wooden bell tower. In 1887, the construction of a new stone church began with funds from the Diocese and parishioners. In 1919-1920, the new authorities ordered the confiscation of church funds and their transfer to the treasury of the Luxembourg district registry office, and a Komsomol club was opened in the priest's house.

In 1931, by decision of the Stavropol Regional Executive Committee, the church in the village was closed, and in December 1932, by order of the director of the Lower Sancheleevo MTS, it was dismantled. Six bells from the bell tower, the largest weighing 72 puds and the smallest 1 pud, were handed over to 'Vtorchermet' for the needs of industrialization. Priest G.I. Serov and deacon N.E. Tikhomirov with their families were exiled.

On June 14, 2011, a decision was made to organize an Orthodox parish of the church in honor of the Archangel Michael.
