Church of Archangel Michael in Mordvinovka

Фото 1
The village of Mordvinovka was named after its founder, Count N. Mordvinov, and was established in 1841. In 1887, the Church of Saint Archangel Michael was built here, becoming one of the few stone churches in the rural areas of the 19th century. The church was designed by architect K.A. Ton. The residents aimed to create a unique church, and their vision was successfully realized. Notable figures such as Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt and the Yelabuga merchant I.G. Stakheev participated in the decoration of the church. The Trinity merchant N.I. Pershin donated a silver cross to the church. Before the revolution, a church school operated at the church, where clergymen taught children literacy, considering it a pious deed. The first lesson was always the Law of God.

In the early 1920s, the church faced difficulties. The Soviet authorities confiscated church property and valuables. According to the inventory, valuables worth 8,400 rubles in gold coins were seized from the Church of Saint Archangel Michael, although many remained unaccounted for. All churches in the area were closed, and the bells were removed.

A club was established in the church building in Mordvinovka. In 1990, a fire broke out in the church, starting on the second floor in the library due to violations of safety regulations during welding work. The firefighters were unable to save the building, and the church was completely burned down. Now, only the walls remain, where images of the Holy Trinity and angels can still be discerned.

With the blessing of Bishop Grigory of Troitsk and South Ural and with the support of the head of the Uvelsky district A.G. Litovchenko, the first steps have been taken to revive the spiritual life in the ancient church of the village of Mordvinovka.
