The church dedicated to Archangel Michael is located in the village of Mordovian Kanadey in the Nikolaevsky district, not far from the famous White Lake, surrounded by picturesque wooded hills. This is the third church in the area, founded in 1770. Its architecture is designed in the shape of a ship, symbolizing the idea that the Church, like a ship, saves believers from the dangers of life's journey and leads them to the Kingdom of Heaven. Initially, the church had two altars: one in honor of the heavenly patron Archangel Michael, and the other, Saint Nicholas. The height of the church is 17 meters, while the future bell tower will be 21 meters. The two domes of the church symbolize the two natures of Jesus Christ and the two realms of creation, the angelic and the human.

In December 1929, the church was closed, looted, and turned into a grain storage facility, after which it remained in neglect for a long time. Only in 2003 did the natives of the village, living in the Moscow region, nun Seraphima, Maria Sergeevna Yaroslavtseva-Fomina, and her son, archimandrite Nikon, now Bishop of Shuya, decide to restore the church. In 2006, the church was closed as the court recognized it as having ceased operations as a legal entity and removed it from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. However, on July 1, 2012, Archbishop Prokl of Simbirsk and Melekes appointed a rector, and since then, daily services have begun in the church.
