One of the main attractions of the village of Lokh is the old church, which impresses with its frescoes, although it is in a state of disrepair. The church was built with the efforts of the entire village, with each household contributing money and eggs for the mortar. In those times, constructing such a large stone church required significant funds. In 1872, thanks to the efforts of local parishioners, the church with a bell tower was completed. It has one altar and is consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael. Inside, there was a three-tiered iconostasis with gilding, and in the narthex stood a large icon of the "Last Judgment," transferred from the old church. The church stood on a hill and was surrounded by a stone fence with colorful glass spheres on the posts.

The icon of the "Last Judgment" is mentioned by A. Sokolov in the book "Saratov Collection. Materials for the Study of Saratov Province," published in 1881: "In conclusion, we mention that in the Lokh church we saw a large image representing the 'Last Judgment.' The images and inscriptions fully correspond to the well-known lubok paintings."

The church was served by two priests, two psalmists, and a deacon. The state allocated more than 300 rubles annually for their maintenance. The church owned 99 desyatinas of arable land, bringing in an income of up to 660 rubles a year. Collection from parishioners averaged up to 2,000 rubles annually. The church had a choir made up of students from local schools. Local landowners I.V. Speransky and N.A. Shcherbina donated 100 rubles a year for teaching children church singing. The church played an important role in village life, sanctifying births, weddings, and funerals.

Since 1936, the church has been used as a grain storage facility. Part of the roof has collapsed, making it unsafe to be in the temple and accelerating its destruction. The interiors are of particular interest, as some of the internal frescoes have partially survived, but the lack of a roof threatens their preservation.

The temple is located on a small elevation, opposite which are the remnants of an old building, likely the house of the clergy. There are no official plans for the restoration of the church, so its restoration is being undertaken by the villagers, enthusiasts, and youth, just as in old times, as a community effort.

The village of Lokh was founded in the 17th century as a watchpoint to protect the Russian state from nomadic raids. The founders were plow soldiers of the Peter's fortress, built in 1697-1699 by order of Peter I. Until the Soviet period, the village was also called Arkhangelsk, in honor of the wooden church of Archangel Michael, built in 1752. This church stood for more than 100 years, and in the 1870s, it was dismantled and sold to the village of Lopatino in the Penza province for 800 rubles. In 1872, a chapel was erected on the site of the old church.
