The Archangel Church was located in the former village of Kladbishchi. The first wooden church was built in 1702, without an altar, and was one of the oldest in the area.

In 1848, state peasants Anton Kurylev and Vasily Malyshev from the village of Kladbishchi appealed to Bishop Yakov of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas with a request to build a new church, as the old church had already fallen into disrepair. A month later, the Spiritual Consistory decided to send the plan attached to the request to the Provincial Construction Commission and to inquire with the Chamber of State Properties if they had any objections to the construction of a new church in the village of Kladbishchi. A month later, the commission reported that the plan and facade had been reviewed and approved.

On May 17, 1849, a final decision was made: to announce to the parishioners the beginning of the construction of a new stone church in the village. A year later, the Nizhny Novgorod Chamber of State Properties requested a report on the progress of the church's construction.
