The wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel is located on the southwestern outskirts of the village of Gubashevo in the Nikolaevsky district, which was previously part of the Khvalynsky district of the Saratov province. Built by parishioners between 1910 and 1912, it was affiliated with the church of St. Michael the Archangel in the village of Nikitino. The church stands alone, not connected to the village layout, and is situated on an elevation.

The church building is made of wood, hewn "in the round," and is covered with wooden boards. The foundation is made of hewn limestone stones on a cement mortar and is low. The roof has a truss structure and is covered with iron.

The iconostasis, icons, and church utensils have not survived. The dimensions of the building are 31.0 by 9.0 meters.

The church is of interest as an example of wooden architecture from the early 20th century, combining elements of pseudo-Russian style and traditions of Russian classicism, which is reflected in the design of the facades and the use of a stylized Doric frieze.

During the Soviet era, the church building was used by the Gubashevo village council of the Nikolaevsky district of the Ulyanovsk region as a grain storage facility. Currently, it has no owner.

To promote cultural heritage sites, the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Policy of the Ulyanovsk region plans to organize a trip to the village of Gubashevo in the Nikolaevsky district in May 2014.

As part of the State Program "Preservation and State Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites in the Ulyanovsk Region 2014-2018," the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Policy of the Ulyanovsk region will conduct a state historical and cultural examination to include this monument in the registry.
