According to the scribal books of 1628-1630, the village of Drachevo belonged to the steward Vasily Ivanovich Nagoy, and earlier was owned by Prince Fyodor Ivanovich Mstislavsky. At that time, there stood an old church of the Archangel Michael, built by the landowners. The church had a priest, a deacon, and a prosphora baker, and the church lands comprised 20 quarters of field. The village had a court of tax collectors and 44 peasant households. The landowner also had the villages of Pavlovo (Nagavitsyno) with 12 peasant households, Korelkino with 20 households, and Sanchugovo with 7 peasant and 4 landless households.

Further information about the church in Drachevo is somewhat confusing. The records of the Ryazan bishop from 1676 mention the Church of the Kazan Mother of God, suggesting that the old church was rebuilt and consecrated in honor of another feast. However, an antimins has survived from the Drachevo church, consecrated for the Archangel church in 1680 by Ryazan Metropolitan Joseph. This may indicate that around 1680, the previous Archangel church was restored in Drachevo.

The wooden Archangel church has survived to this day as a monument of 17th-century Russian church architecture. Its structure is quite simple and consists of three log cabins: altar, church, and refectory on basements. The porch is separated from the refectory cabin by a wall, and the church roof is gabled. A round neck is placed on a small octagon on the roof, and the large dome is covered with wooden shingles. Above the refectory is a bell tower, hewn at five angles and covered with a tent. The crosses on the domes are octagonal.
