Bolshaya Tarasovka is the oldest settlement in the Perelyubsky district. It was founded in the late 1760s by Mordovian state peasants who migrated from Tarasovka in the Petrovsky district of Saratov province, now part of the Kameshkirsky district of the Penza region. Initially, the village was called Svinuha. Over time, Russian settlers from the right bank of Saratov province began to arrive here.

In the early 19th century, peasants from Kursk province settled in Kamelik, establishing themselves in Bolshaya Tarasovka beyond two ravines, and this part of the village was named Kurshchina. Here, in 1856, parishioners built a wooden Orthodox church in honor of Archangel Michael. According to the 1859 census, Bolshaya Tarasovka had 118 households, 477 men, and 531 women. A major road nearby was the Novo-Uzensky postal tract. The village also had a water mill with seven sets, owned by V. I. Bukhvostov. On July 5, 1886, a one-class church school for boys opened in the village.

In 1897, the church was rebuilt by the efforts of the parishioners, increasing its capacity to 1,100 people. The temple remained wooden, cold, with an iron roof, a wooden bell tower, an iron fence on a stone foundation, and one altar in the name of Archistratigus Michael, which was reconsecrated on October 4, 1897, by Bishop Guriy of Samara and Stavropol. The clergy of the church in Bolshaya Tarasovka consisted of a priest and a psalmist, who lived in communal houses. Due to the poverty of the parish, there was no deacon.
