Church of Mary Magdalene in Tyoplovka

Фото 1
On the territory of the Bestuzhev estate, there was previously a wooden church dedicated to Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene. In the mid-19th century, a chapel with a family crypt of the Drozdov family stood in place of the church. In 1863, a small room with a low ceiling, small windows, and a door, as well as a similar bell tower, was added to the chapel. Before the village had its own parish, the church was attached to the village of Golovino, and services were held every other Sunday. By the decree of the Holy Synod on November 24, 1897, an independent parish was established in the village of Tyoply Stan in the Syzran district, consisting of a priest and a psalmist. The first priest was Alexander Fyodorovich Pisarev, a graduate of the Simbirsk Theological Seminary, and the psalmist was Fyodor Mikhailovich Zverev, a student of the Simbirsk Theological School. The parish included residents of Tyoply Stan and the village of Panovka, former serfs of Ludwig Drozdovsky. By the end of the 19th century, most parishioners of the village of Tyoply Stan were Orthodox, while about half of the residents of the village of Panovka belonged to the Old Believers of the Pomor type and the White Priests.

In 1899, the church was completely rebuilt: a new bell tower was installed, and the height of the building was increased. The church project was developed by architect Zimar, and the main builder was a peasant from the village of Kuroyedovo in the Syzran district, Stepan Yakovlevich Viktorov. On September 19, 1899, the temple was consecrated with a small rite by special permission of His Grace Nikandr, Bishop of Simbirsk. In 1903, a bell weighing 50 poods and 22 pounds, made at the Mefodyev factory in Saratov, was purchased for the church from the Simbirsk diocesan candle factory. The church consisted of a two-light square of the temple, a rectangular altar, a refectory, and a bell tower, and was constructed from round logs 'in the oblo' style. The facades were sheathed with planks.

The temple was closed in the 1930s. After reconstruction, the church lost its dome and bell tower. In the 1980s, the building was used by the Nikolayevsky RONO as a school gym. Currently, the church is abandoned and rapidly deteriorating.
