The church dedicated to the righteous Lazarus was located at the cemetery of the same name. Initially, there was a wooden church built in 1797. In 1817, Archbishop Theophilact permitted the construction of a new stone temple nearby. A year later, one of the chapels was consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and in 1823, the second, dedicated to St. Athanasius of Athos. In 1826, the main altar was consecrated in honor of the righteous Lazarus. According to the memories of the locals, this church resembled the Sorrowful Cemetery Church. Both famous and ordinary people were buried at Lazarus Cemetery, including the parents of Academician Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, Varvara Ivanovna and Pyotr Dmitrievich. Archpriest Pyotr Pavlov served as the rector of Lazarus Church from 1868 and was buried here after his death. In August 1935, during his last visit to Ryazan, Academician Pavlov ordered a memorial service for his parents at Lazarus Church. That same year, the church was closed and later destroyed. In July 1999, the construction of a new church began, which was consecrated on December 17, 2000.
