Church of St. Xenia of Petersburg in Solba

Фото 1
Next to the Assumption Church stands a majestic building housing a temple in honor of the holy blessed Xenia of Petersburg, a monument of 19th-century architecture. Originally, it was a small two-story structure in a semi-ruined state with unaesthetic extensions. In the winter of 1999, the first sisters with the mother superior settled here, sharing the roof with suspicious neighbors. Besides this building and the ruined Assumption Church, there was desolation, debris, and swamp all around. For 10 years, the entire life of the monastery was concentrated in this building. It housed cells for the sisters, guests, and pilgrims, as well as a kitchen, bakery, dairy, sewing room, laundry, office, art workshop, library, and storage facilities. The building was full of life and resembled a beehive. In 2002, a third floor was added with a dining temple in honor of the blessed Xenia of Petersburg. The domes were crafted after the model of the domes of the Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery without blueprints or calculations. Now, the building with the temple of the holy blessed Xenia of Petersburg serves administrative functions, housing the accounting department, office, legal department, and press service of the monastery. The sisters moved to the new Varvarinsky building, and specialized facilities were created for household needs.
