Church of Cosmas and Damian in Stara Racheyka

Фото 1
For a long time, Stara Racheyka was owned by the Moscow Ascension Convent. After 1762, the village passed into state ownership.

In 1871, a new church was built with funds from the board of trustees in honor of the holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, replacing the old church.

In 1932, the church was closed, after which it was desecrated: the bell was thrown down, icons were burned, and the dome was demolished. The building was used as a warehouse, cafeteria, and production workshop.

In 1991, the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church, and restoration began in 1992. A dome weighing 950 kilograms was recreated. Self-taught artist Vasily Gorbach painted an icon of the holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian and later decorated a three-meter cross with a crucifixion.
