Church of Cosmas and Damian in Novosemeikino

Фото 1
In the village of Novosemeikino, the first church was built in 1848, but by 1900 the wooden structure had deteriorated significantly. The provincial authorities allocated 37,300 rubles from the treasury for the construction of a new stone church, which was considered a substantial amount at that time. The construction lasted 16 years, and in 1916 the church was consecrated in honor of Saints Cosmas and Damian. After the events of 1917, the church was closed, the rector was shot, and in 1932 the building was completely destroyed. In 1994, an Orthodox parish was opened in Novosemeikino, and the building of the former library was repurposed as a prayer house, which the parishioners equipped with their own efforts. In 1997, the construction of a new church began, mainly funded by donations from parishioners. The first Divine Liturgy in the new church took place on October 14, 2000, on the feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. On November 14, 2001, a festive service on the feast day was led by Archbishop Sergey of Samara and Syzran, who presented Archdiocesan awards to those who actively participated in the construction. Over three years, a refectory was built on the church grounds, which was completed in 2004.
