The church is located on Yarunovaya Hill, known since the 17th century, on a small hill by the banks of the Kamenka River. According to local legends, the hill got its name from the shrine of the pagan god Yarun, or Yarila, which once stood here.

It is believed that in the late 12th century, Bishop John II of Rostov and Suzdal founded a monastery of Cosmas and Damian at this site. When the monastery was abolished is unknown. In the Suzdal inventory of 1617, the Church of Cosmas and Damian is mentioned as a parish church, wooden, with a refectory dedicated to the Holy Myrrhbearers, built by the parishioners.

In 1725, the wooden church was dismantled by the efforts of the parishioners, and a stone church with a bell tower and fence was built in its place.

On December 29, 2010, the church was visited by Archbishop Evlogy Smirnov of Vladimir and Suzdal. On that day, a cross was installed on the church, and the archbishop's blessing was given for conducting services in the chapel of the Nine Kizik Martyrs.

This picturesque church stands out with its asymmetric composition. A bell tower in the shape of an octagon on a square base is attached to the main cubic volume on the western side, topped with a tent-like "pipe" with decorative elements above the sound windows and a small onion-shaped dome. The main volume of the church is almost devoid of decoration and is crowned with an onion-shaped dome on a high drum. The one-story, rectangular in plan, single-domed chapel is executed in the style of winter Suzdal churches. Before the revolution, the church was surrounded by a low stone fence with a staircase leading to the river.
